New heritage stories project for Newhaven

The Newhaven Heritage Stories project kicked off in January 2026 and continues until January 2028. Thanks to National Lottery players, the project, led by local Historian Dr Jenny Flood and Sussex Community Development Association, will focus upon “Hidden Histories” of Newhaven from the 1960’s onwards – an underexplored and dynamic period in the history and community development of the town. From the starting point of personal stories and artefacts, the project will support community-based heritage research to create a workshop programme, community events, book, touring exhibition, educational resources, reminiscence groups, warm space events and walks.
